A Report from the 2007 meeting of TVR Wedges in England

TVRCCNA club president Marshall Moore is at Big Bad Wedge Fest in the UK. See some of his pictures by clicking here.

Here is his report:

Wedge Fest 2007 is now in the books, and what a great time it was! This annual event, held at the Ettington Chase hotel outside Stratford-Upon-Avon in England, brought together owners of the TVR Wedges ranging from the 2 litre cars all the way up to Steve Heath's "Purple Shed" 520SE Race car which, with its supercharger, puts out well in excess of 500 horsepower!!!
Although US wedge fans have to satisfied with the Tasmin/280i models with the V6, there were only a few of those present at this year's BBWF. The preponderence of wedges present were the V8 models ranging from the 350i to the 390SE, 400SE, 450SE, the 420 and 450SEACs, and a few 'special' models such as the 350 and 400SX fitted from new with the Sprintex supercharger, the yellow 420SEAC racer of Jeff Stratham's, and a lone 430SE.
On Saturday, the weather dried out and we had mostly sunny skies...a welcome respite after the wettest couple of months in England on record......and everyone got to go around and enjoy the cars on display, put their wedges on the portable Rolling Road, or compete, if they chose, to submit their cars to the "Loudest Wedge" contest. B elieve me, this is definitely LOUD!

The special guest on Saturday was Martin Lilley, under whose ownership, TVR developed the wedge TVRs. Martin and his wife Julie were there to enjoy the wide array of wedges on hand.
In addition to me, TVRCCNA member Tony Blevins, who just happens to own my old red 1983 Tasmin out in California, was also there to enjoy the festivities. That evening, we walked down the road to a pub for a cookout and a few pints.
The rain fell Saturday night, but by Sunday morning, things dried back out and about mid morning, we set off for a "run out", involving about 30 V8 wedges on about a 3 hour drive through some beautiful English countryside, stopping for lunch at a lovely old pub. We motored through a number of lovely villages, greeting them with some high revs from the V8s, with the exhaust notes echoing off the stone buildings. Everyone obviously knew we had been through!!!
When it was all done, and the afternoon runout was over, then everyone started talking about Wedge Fest 2008.
So, for you confirmed Wedge owners here in the States and Canada, if you haven't been to Wedge Fest yet, put it on your calendar. It's a fabulous weekend, with some great folks and some great cars. Hope to see more of you there next year!

Marshall
