British Car Invitational
April 26th Autocross
Featuring British Cars

The Capital Driving Club will be holding an autocross on Saturday April 26th (the day before Britain on the Green –Collingwood), at the Bowie Baysox Stadium in Bowie, MD.  This event will be the first British Car Invitational.  All participants driving vintage British Cars will only be charged $25 (normally $35 for non-members).  In addition, CDC will also hold a basic autocross clinic for $10.

Autocross events are great fun, safe, and expose the abilities of you and the car.  You might find that after you attend one event, you’ll want to attend another!

Participants at the autocross will be placed in one of four heats.  Each heat will run in the morning and again in the afternoon.  This short clinic will be held while the participants in heats 1, 2, and 3 are running and will be finished in time for the participants in the clinic to participant in heat 4.

The clinic will have instructors and will give an opportunity for beginners to learn skills in navigating gates, driving skid pads, and slaloms.  Instructors are also present to help you driving the autocross course at no charge.

The autocross starts with registration at tech inspection at 8:30 am and typically ends around 4:30 pm.  CDC also grills hotdogs, sausages, chicken sandwiches, etouffee and offers with free sodas, Gator-Aid, and water.

Space is limited.  So reserve your spot early.  Participants driving a British car will be allowed to reserve as a CDC member.

CDC also has a Vintage Small Bore (1600 cc and less) Series, which Sprite, Midgets, MGA’s, original Minis, and Spitfires are included.  First place in the series will get a season pass at the end of the year for the 2009 autocross season.

For those of you that haven’t had enough, CDC will also be holding a track day at Summit Point on Monday April 28th on the Shenandoah Track.

For any questions, contact Ed Chan at capitaldriving@yahoo.com or feel free to place any comments or questions on the CDC forum at www.capitaldrivingclub.com.

VRCCNA President Marshall Moore had the pleasure of a visit from two lovely ladies in a red 1986 280i recently.
Linda and Tracy, from Quebec, Canada, were coming back from Florida and took a side trip to visit Marshall on their way north. Linda said it was the first time in the time she has owned her 280i that she has had the opportunity to go for a drive with another 280i. They all took some time out to take some photos of the cars before LInda and Tracy hit the road north.

Hunt Country Classic

The regular season for the Mid-Atlantic region of the TVRCCNA drew to a close on Sunday, October 8th, with the Hunt Country Classic held at Bill and Barbara Scott’s beautiful Willoughby Farm near Marshall, Virginia. This event, sponsored by the Washington, D.C. MG Car Club has drawn TVRs over the years and this year drew 6 TVRs for the 11th annual event.

On Saturday prior to the event, Mid-Atlantic R.O. Jeff Loss opened up his house to a half-dozen TVR fanatics for a pre-show cookout. He then led the convoy Sunday morning for those who wished to participate in the drive through some gorgeous northern Virginia horse country to Willoughby Farm.

Despite the heavy rains that soaked the state on Saturday, Sunday proved to be a beautiful day with the only detraction being slightly soggy fields. Present with their TVRs on the show field Sunday were Chris McArdle with his Griffith 400, Drew Patterson with his 1977 ½ 2500M, Jeff Loss with his 1972 2500 V8, George Czerw with his 1984 280i coupe, and Marshall Moore with his recently-acquired 1987 280i. Also present, but with non-TVR transportation, were Kenny Rollins who brought his Bentley Turbo R, Scott Stubblefield who came in his Morgan, and Ira Schoen in his Cortina. John Wohlslagel also arrived in his beautiful 1970 Vixen S2 but only stayed a short while and therefore didn’t park with the rest of the TVRs on the show field.

There were approximately 165 beautiful British cars arranged across the lawn and fields of Willoughby Farm with such marques represented as MG, Triumph, Austin Healey, Jaguar, Lotus, Rolls Royce and Bentley, Morgan, Jensen-Healey, Sunbeam, Riley, Lanchester, Morris, Mini and much more. When all the ballots were counted and the awards handed out, the TVR awards went as follows:
Third Place: Drew Patterson
Second Place: Jeffrey Loss
First Place: Chris McArdle

This event is a great way to wrap up the season in the Mid-Atlantic area and we hope that more of you will join us in the coming years and take part at this beautiful venue.
